Obituary of Martin Andrew Tank
Cambridge, WI – Martin (Marty) Tank, 63, took his final checkered flag on Wednesday November 14, 2018 following a determined battle with his opponent (liver cancer). The product of team owners, Donald and Norma (Galneres) Tank, Marty rolled off the assembly line on October 26, 1955 in Marshfield, WI.
Marty began his modification process at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and continued his upgrades at Mid-State Technical College. He found further performance gains in 1974 when he traded in his racing strips for camouflage joining the US Army where he served 3 years at Fort Carson, CO. In 1974, Crew Chief Cynthia Timm was added and they picked up additional 3 pit crew members in their time together. After a team restructuring 1 more pit crew member was added and the crew was complete.
He always had a passion for cars and was very good working with his hands. He could be a true visionary and although he spent his share of time in the garage area due to engine trouble, he emerged to finish strong. He inspired the youngest of his crew to go to college and became a positive influence in the life of his family. He was awarded a special pin and a Veterans Certificate of Appreciation at a memorable ceremony honoring his military service.
Marty is survived by his children, Sherri (Shel) Gorzelanczyk, Green Bay, WI, Martin (Alicia) Tank II, Brentwood, TN, Dustin (Meggan) Tank, Tomah, WI and Katelyn Tank, Fort Atkinson, WI; grandchildren, Bryce, Brock, Cali, Carmen, Nadia, Jaden, Lily and Ethan; his sisters, Yvonne Utech, Middleton, WI and Donna Williams, Fitchburg, WI; brothers Walter (Patti) Tank, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Miquel (Lori) Tank, Wautoma, WI, Charles (Christine) Tank, Stoughton, WI and Christopher (Heather) Tank, Hudson, WI.
