John was a great colleague and I’m devastated by this heartbreaking news. I really enjoyed working with him, he talked so lovingly about his wife and son. He made us laugh while working, he was kind, patient, so very intelligent and had a way of making us feel valued and special. He will be greatly missed. As a cancer survivor myself, when I was informed today by my friend and colleague Amy Berendes - my heart sank and I cried, it’s truly a terrible loss and I extend my sincerest condolences to his wife, son, sisters and family.

I am so sad to hear this. John was always a warm and friendly person who showed his care and concern for students and staff. Although I did not work directly with him, I spoke with him on a regular basis since our offices were directly across the hallway in Roseman.
Sincerely, I send my condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to Sandra, Ian, and John's extended family. I was blessed to have worked closely with John over the past couple of years at UW Extension. While I mourn his departure, I am grateful for our paths having crossed and the wonderful discussions we had on such a wide range of topics. He was so proud of Ian and always spoke lovingly of Sandra. I’ll miss his great humor, his empathy, his intelligence, and great insights about higher education. I’ll miss his stories. The Stone family remains in our thoughts and prayers.

Those of us who worked with John closely at UW Extended Campus and UW-Parkside know that this world lost an exceptional human being whose kindness, sense of humor, and professionalism brought the best out of everyone around him. His work ethic and high standards were admirable.
John, my friend:
For many years to come, I will continue to marvel at how effortlessly you displayed fine human qualities like empathy, humor, and selflessness in daily life. Words cannot describe the sadness I feel. It is tough for me to find a reason why God took you so early --- may be the heaven is in dire need of an extraordinary soul like you!

I had the pleasure of working alongside Jon for several UW system initiatives. He was a delightful student centered individual. He always made me belly laugh. I hope that I provided the same to him. My deepest condolences to the extended family.

I have a very fond memory of John, who attended my presentation when I interviewed at UW-Whitewater. John Chenoweth, chair of the search committee, introduced me, and attendees noted that we shared the same name, and a somewhat unusual last name at that. Then members of the audience introduced themselves to me. When it was John's turn he introduced himself as "Skip Chenoweth". Of course everyone cracked up, including me. Later I had to ask someone: "Who was that guy who introduced himself as Skip Chenoweth." I know John will be sorely missed by all who knew him..What a great guy!

Like many others at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, I was a student of John's as part of the First Year Faculty program. His energy, optimism, and enthusiasm were infectious, and I came away from his class far less nervous about starting my time at UW-Whitewater and excited about my future career. In subsequent years, he was always friendly and supportive; it was always a pleasure talking with him. My deepest condolences go out to his family and everyone else who cared for John.

John and I joined the Communication Dept. the same year. He was one of the few people I know who instantly "got me," and I enjoyed many interactions with him over the years. He spoke often about his wife and son, and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to them. I will always remember him with a smile!
