When Jim and I and a few other friends, Harry Leffingwell, John Pieper and a couple others I don't remember were in 7th and 8th grades we had a clubhouse in his folks garage behind their home on Main Street. It was basically the attic of an old barn. There Harry would stash road signs he had confiscated and used them to decorate the walls of our "clubhouse" We all had cigarettes that we had shoplifted from the 5 points grocery store and smoked a couple each time we got together. Those cigarettes would last a couple of months and by the end they were really stale. Later when Jim got his drivers license he would drive us around in his folks second car (he was one of the few guys that I knew who had a second car in the family). It was a 1954 Ford stick shift that Jim loved to double clutch when shifting gears, and he was pretty good at it. Later on his Dad gave him the use of their Olds 98 hardtop and man could Jim burn rubber. Growing up in Whitewater in the fifties and sixties was in my opinion a great time.
Jim you will be missed, you were generous, smart, a gifted musician, and shared your wealth with your community, Thanks for being my friend. Chappy Achen

Hi Mrs. Coburn, Thayer, Cara, Joe, and all members of the Coburn Family, I am very sorry that Mr. Coburn died. He was a nice man. In all my years in Whitewater, I always saw Mr. Coburn with a smile on his face. He seemed to enjoy life. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. Sincerely, Dirk Seibold

The photograph just uploaded is of the Famous (in their own minds) Basset Hounds, They sang at every opportunity and sometimes they sang to long, but sad to say now only Jim Olmsted remains. All of them were of the class of 1963 and we all thought they were great.
