Obituary of Gwendolyn Ann Pitzner

Gwendolyn Ann Pitzner, a resident of Fort Atkinson since 1948, died on January 16th, 2010. �She was born December 18, 1922, to John E. and Margaret (Roberts) Jones. She grew up on Burr Oak farm in Waukesha and was active in 4-H. She was Dairy Queen in 1942. She married Willard Pitzner on June 28, 1947 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Waukesha. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1997. �Gwen graduated from Waukesha High School in 1940, and earned a BA degree in Biology and Math from Carroll College in 1944. She was an active member of Beta Chi Theta sorority. She taught at Fort Atkinson High School as their first time Biology teacher for two years, and joined the Beloit High School faculty in 1947 prior to marrying Willard Pitzner, a local building contractor, in June. She helped him in the business for many years while working full time in raising their two children. Gwen was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Atkinson. She belonged to many organizations: Circle 3 at First Congregational, fifty year member of Woman�s club, charter member of AAUW, charter member of Tuesday Club where she served as president 1 year, and the Fort Atkinson Historical Society. �She enjoyed spending time at the family farm, attending jam sessions with husband, Willard, gardening, furniture refinishing, playing bridge, shopping with her grandchildren and traveling. Her interests and activities led to many friendships. She was always eager to listen to others and lend a helping hand. �Surviving are one son, Russell of Madison (Kathy Green of Sturgeon Bay); one daughter, Margaret (Don) Liebmann of Fort Atkinson; two granddaughters, Megan (Nick) McCoy and Melissa Liebmann (Eric Woolridge fianc�) both of Milwaukee; one great grandson, Cole McCoy; one sister Juanita (Leon) Hanke of Yuma Az.; a special aunt, Ruth Roberts, and other special relatives and friends; Gail Seavert (David), Bev Pieritz, Marion Fleck, Harry Riemer, Sarah (Jerry) Kuker, and Marilyn Hanke. Brad (Beth) Poetsch, Barb (Norm) Nelson, Harold and Don Roberts, Shirley (George) Conway, and Kenneth (Ruth) Roberts. �Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 19 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Atkinson, at 12:00pm with the Reverend Chris Buckingham-Taylor officiating. A private burial will take place at the Salem Cemetery in the town of Genesee. �Friends may call at the church from 11:00 until the time of service.
